In 2008 Omagh Methodist Church formed a Men’s Breakfast Group with the aim of encouraging men to come for fellowship and enjoy a good breakfast. The aim was to attract men from different church backgrounds – and we have been successful in that regard.
We normally have four ‘Breakfasts’ over the winter season (October to March) and in 2015 we replaced our January Breakfast with an evening event running it as a contribution to the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The evening event is followed by supper.
Thus over the past 11 years we have had some 50 invited speakers sharing something of their work or interests and revealing the importance of their Christian faith. We have been blessed with faithful outside caterers, Gordon and Barbara, who serve up a really tasty breakfast.
The Group meets in the hall at Omagh Methodist Church on a Saturday morning, with breakfast served from 9am, followed by a few hymns and then the invited speaker, with the aim of finishing about 10.30am.
For the evening events the speakers have been:
2015 Shane Logan, Chief Executive, Ulster Rugby
2016 Mickey Harte, Manager of the Tyrone GAA Team
2017 Jim Boyce, former President of the IFA, and an UEFA Vice-President
2018 Robert Colvin, NI representative for MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship)
2019 Michael Kelly, Managing Editor, the Irish Catholic publication
2020 Sir Nigel Hamilton, Former Head of Northern Ireland Civil Service
A warm invitation is extended to any men with an interest in attending and for further information and dates please contact John Buchanan (Convenor) on 07734 823 752 or johnsbuchanan2@hotmail.com
