Omagh Methodist M.W.I. Group
Omagh Methodist M.W.I. held its annual church service on Sunday 25th May. The guest speaker was Mrs Alison Humphries, Vice-President of the North West M.W.I. Now resident in Co. Fermanagh, she was well known to those present, having previously managed the Carlisle Bookshop on Omagh’s High Street.
Alison’s address was based on the story of David and Goliath. During the children’s part of the service she invited the younger members of the congregation to join her at the front of the church to engage in a mock battle with Goliath. Using a sock for sling and a tennis ball for a pebble she was able to demonstrate that David could not have succeeded without the God’s help. Her message for the adults was that the challenges we face in life, often seemingly impossible, can be overcome with faith and the strength which God can provide.
As well as speaking Alison played her guitar and sang a solo. The service was led by Omagh MWI President, Mrs Anne McBain with MWI members leading in prayer and doing Bible readings. Music for the uplifting hymn-singing was provided by Mrs Betty Doonan on the organ and Mrs Florence Caldwell on the piano. Following the service the ladies of the MWI enjoyed luncheon in the Silverbirch Hotel for members and guests.
