On Sunday 11 September 2022 Rev Eleanor Hayden had the pleasure of christening Baby Oliver Barton, infant son of David and Mandy.   As the photo below shows it was a real family occasion, perhaps made poignant by the fact that morning service began with a tribute to the memory of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on Thursday, 8th September.   Rev Hayden led the congregation in prayers for the Royal Family, followed by a minute’s silence and a heart-felt rendition of GOD SAVE THE KING.

In the Methodist Church in Ireland Sunday 11 September had also been designated as the date for our “Local Preachers Affirmation Service” and Rev Eleanor Hayden invited Mrs Doreen Preston and Mr Gareth Hayden to come forward and publicly re-affirm their commitment to their calling.  An apology was given for Mr John Buchanan, another of or local preachers, unable to be present due to family circumstances.  Rev Eleanor took as the theme for her address “Your talent is God’s gift to you.  What you do with it is your gift back to God.”  Having referred specifically to her local preachers, she went on to praise the congregation for the broad range of talents they made available to the church for the glory of God.  Among the many gifts mentioned she included the talents of those had turned up the day before to paint the church gates and railings.
