07 March 2021 -Drive-in Services resume

Rev Eleanor Hayden

Throughout the second lockdown after Christmas 2020 there was an expectation that services inside the church might resume in March.  However, the “R” number for Coronavirus infections stayed stubbornly high right through February, resulting in the Stormont Executive announcing an extension of the lockdown until the beginning of April 2021.   In light of this the Church Council decided to resume drive-in services in the carparks of both Mayne and Omagh Methodist on Sunday 7 March, while continuing to make Morning Services available online.

On a bright dry morning with a hint of spring in the air both congregations responded well to the call with over 20 cars assembling at Mayne at 10.00 am and a similar number in Omagh at 11.00 am.  The service was led by Rev Eleanor who drew on the complexities of Peter’s relationship with Jesus to illustrate the frailties and challenges we all face on our journey of faith.   Worship took the form of two hymns pre-recorded for the service by Mrs Rhona Alcorn.  Thanks were extended to all who had prepared the carpark for the service and who have been faithfully maintaining the church property during the on-going pandemic.
