Throughout the period of Lent, from Ash Wednesday on 6th March to the start of Holy week on Monday 15th April, the congregations of Omagh Methodist and St Columba’s held joint services each Wednesday evening. Alternating between the churches, services on the theme of “Going for Growth” were led by Rev Eleanor Hayden, Rev Sean Hanily and Canon Derek Quinn. Combined services continued during Holy Week with Dr Heather Morris from Belfast as the special Preacher. Well supported by worshippers from churches in and around the town, all were spiritually enriched as Dr Morris spoke of “The Affirming Touch of God” over five evenings. On Maundy Thursday Holy Communion was celebrated in Omagh Methodist as part of a service which included worship music from the choral group “Voices in Praise”. On Good Friday Morning a family walk was held at Mountjoy where Rev Eleanor and Rev Sean explained the “Way of the Cross” on a circuit of the Folk Park. On Easter Sunday, 21 April, an open-air dawn service was held at 6.00 am on a hill top overlooking Omagh from a vantage point above Mountfield. Holy Week ended with each of the participating congregations holding Easter Morning Services in their own churches in celebration of the most important date in the Christian calendar.
